Nigerian singer Fuayefika Maxwell, widely known as Wizard Chan, has spoken out about the mix-up in the Alternative Song of the Year category at the 16th Headies Awards.
Initially, British-Nigerian singer Obongjayar’s ‘Tinko Tinko’ was announced as the winner of the Best Alternative Song category at the 2023 Headies Awards in Atlanta, USA. However, Wizard Chan, whose hit song ‘Earth Song’ was also nominated in the same category, revealed in a video message on Instagram that the award was later corrected, and he was recognized as the rightful winner.
In his message, Wizard Chan expressed his gratitude to his fans for voting for him, acknowledging the support of his management and the people from his hometown, Okrikka, Rivers State, Port Harcourt, and Nigeria at large. He also thanked notable figures like Don Jazzy, Tacha, and Sabinus for their support.
The mix-up at the awards ceremony caused confusion and sparked discussions among music enthusiasts and fans, but it was ultimately resolved to ensure that the award went to the deserving artist.
