Nigerian music sensation Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has sparked conversations across social media after a recent encounter with a female fan, where he firmly asserted his marital status. The incident occurred at a ladies-only event hosted by the Grammy-winning artist in London on Tuesday.
A video that circulated widely on Wednesday captured the moment when Wizkid, surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of female fans, noticed one admirer getting a bit too close. Pausing his performance, he addressed the fan, saying, “Baby, I’m a married man. Don’t come close to me. I’m married, and my kids are at home.”
Wizkid’s candid comment quickly gained traction online, leading to a mix of reactions. While some found the statement humorous or admirable, others interpreted it as dismissive. A user on X (formerly Twitter), known as DUKE OF UNILAG, criticized the artist’s response, writing, “This guy is a w***y. He threw shade and then went off to enjoy himself.”
On the other hand, several fans rallied behind Wizkid, praising him for his commitment to family. A user by the name of #nuggetman1 suggested that Wizkid might be envious of fellow musician David Adeleke, better known as Davido, who is known for his public marriage. The tweet read, “He’s just wishing he’s married like Davido.”
Another fan, @Halegbs, questioned Wizkid’s claims, stating, “This one too is claiming married! When did you do wedding? Low key wants to be like Davido. Do the wedding first and buy PJ, then you can get close to Davido’s level.”
Amid the banter, some users saw a lighter side to the situation. #lare_do1 humorously speculated that Wizkid might be considering a switch to skit-making, joking, “Wizkid wants to switch to skit making. Nasboi has entered music.”
However, many users applauded Wizkid for his declaration. #aone.ayo1 commended him, saying, “He’s a man of principles.” Another supporter, #Majorsiz, commented, “Man has married Jada lowkey,” referring to his longtime partner and manager, Jada Pollock.
One fan, @eleojovictoor, added, “Wizzy, a very wise man. No ambiguity with his relationship status.” Similarly, #Cletus_annie_oge expressed admiration for the singer’s firm stance, writing, “My married man ????????❤️❤️ baby, don’t go close to him, please.”
The incident has once again highlighted Wizkid’s strong public image and his dedication to his family, further cementing his place as one of Nigeria’s most influential artists.
