Suspected herdsmen launched an attack on the Antsa community early Monday morning, injuring ten people. Antsa, located on the busy North Bank road in Benue State near J.S. Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, is now the epicenter of rising tensions.
Youth Blockade in Response
By 7 am, in a swift response to the violence, local youths began blocking the main University Community road. This protest has caused significant disruption for travelers heading to Gbajimba in Guma Local Government Area.
At the time of this report, the road remains blocked as the protesters demand urgent government intervention to address their security concerns. They have vowed to maintain the blockade until tangible actions are taken to ensure their safety.
Herdsmen Target Benue Assembly Members
In a related incident, gunmen believed to be part of a herdsmen militia attacked members of the Benue State House of Assembly. The attack occurred late Thursday night around 10 pm, near Kilometer 16 on the Makurdi/Gboko Road.
Reports indicate that the Assembly members were returning from a public hearing in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area when they came under fire. Hon. Elias Audu, Chairman of the House Committee on Information and Orientation, confirmed the attack.
The community is on edge as authorities grapple with these escalating security challenges.
