In a press release signed by Barr. Alphonsus Eba Ogar, the Cross River Chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party, appeals to give President Tinubu more time to implement the Renewed Hope programs.
“Fellow Nigerians, I write to express our collective pains, sufferings and hardships occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the naira,
“While we commend the understanding and patience of the citizens in this trying moment, we still want to appeal that President Tinubu be given more time to implement the renewed hope programs and projects because I can see light at the end of the tunnel.
Acknowledging the recent calls for protests, he said that, “While it is within the rights of everyone to peacefully assemble and carry out a peaceful protest, the security report about the planned hijack by non-patriotic Nigerians to make the planned protest on August 1st counterproductive, stating that the president has heard us and he will address all our concerns”.
He particularly urged people of Cross River State to learn from the EndSars protest experience which is still fresh in our hearts, he said that, “Cross River was worse hit because of the hijack by non-Cross Riverians that looted and destroyed public and private properties,
“The local government autonomy judgement will bring the government closer to the people.
“The successful implementation of student’s loan scheme, consumer credit scheme, new minimum wage etc, are steps to the right direction and it an only get better going forward.
“On the interim, food prices will go down because of bumper harvest, opened borders and removal of taxes on food and pharmaceutical products.
“The ongoing food distribution as palliatives including distribution of fertilizers and conditional cash transfers are geared towards addressing the suffering of our people.
“In a few weeks’ time, fuel prices will go down because of CNG vehicles conversion and commencement of refined petrol in Port Harcourt and Dangote Refineries.
“Naira will strengthen because the huge pressure to procure dollars for fuel importation will drop”.
Barr. Alphonsus warned Cross Riverians to consider the consequences of protests which often escalates into violence, leading to widespread chaos, loss of lives and destruction of properties.
“The season of sweetness is here, it can only get better if we think Cross River and support His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Out.
“The ruling All Progressive Congress leadership will meet with all states chairmen and will present the true report from each state”.
He urged Nigerians to show more tolerance that, “That the war against corruption, insurgency and crude oil theft is showing positive results.
“Never again should we hand over a banner with stains to our children,” he added.
