Isaac Omodewu, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, has issued a warning about the planned hunger protest against the Federal Government, suggesting that it could be taken over by individuals with malicious intent and economic saboteurs. Omodewu cautioned that such protests and attempts to incite anarchy are counterproductive for those genuinely seeking improvement in Nigeria.
In a statement released by Oyo APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare on Sunday, Omodewu emphasized that violent demonstrations and rebellion are not the solutions for true patriots striving for a better Nigeria. He argued that no nation has ever achieved swift progress through chaos and mindless unrest.
Omodewu acknowledged the current economic difficulties caused by the removal of subsidies on imported petroleum products, a policy decision announced by President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2024. Despite the hardships faced by many Nigerians due to rising prices, Omodewu urged patience and understanding, expressing confidence that relief measures are being planned by the President.
The APC Chairman criticized the individuals leading the protests, describing them as “powerful leeches” who had previously benefited from the flawed system. He accused these individuals of opposing the changes initiated by President Tinubu because they prefer maintaining the status quo, even if it means worsening conditions for the country.
Omodewu also drew a parallel with the 2020 ENDSARS protests, which he claimed were hijacked by criminal elements. He warned that similar attempts to undermine the current administration could harm national progress.
He concluded his statement by reaffirming President Tinubu’s competence, commitment, and dedication to improving Nigeria. Omodewu urged citizens to avoid supporting the orchestrated protests and instead allow the administration to focus on its efforts to address the nation’s challenges.
“President Tinubu has shown a strong commitment to rescuing Nigeria from its difficulties,” Omodewu said. “We must not fall into the traps set by those with ill intentions. Let us support our leaders and allow them to continue their work towards a better Nigeria.”
