Apple has introduced a new Apple Pencil model that features a USB-C charging port, making it the most affordable stylus pen from the tech giant. This new Apple Pencil is designed for enhanced productivity and creativity and is compatible with the iPad 10th generation and all iPads equipped with a USB-C port.
The new Apple Pencil is equipped with a sliding cap that reveals a USB-C port, allowing for convenient charging. It also features a built-in magnet, enabling users to attach it to their iPad for storage or to place the Pencil in sleep mode when not in use.
This stylus pen has a wide range of applications, including taking notes, reading, annotating content, marking up documents, collaborating on PDFs, and Apple plans to add support for AutoFill in PDF later. It’s also suitable for basic sketching and drawing in the Freeform app. The Apple Pencil works with various apps, including Messages, the Lock Screen, Interactive Widgets, and more, making it a valuable tool for students.
The Apple Pencil with a USB-C port model weighs 20.5 grams (0.72 ounces) and measures 155 x 7.5 mm (6.10 x 0.29 inches). It is priced at $79 in the U.S. ($70 for Education), £79 in the U.K., and 95,00 € in Europe. The accessory is set to be available in early November. Notably, the new stylus pen is more affordable than the 1st-gen Apple Pencil priced at $99 and the 2nd-gen model with a $129 price tag. Apple also offers a separate USB-C to Apple Pencil adapter for $9, which is compatible with the Apple Pencil 1st-gen.
The Apple Pencil with a USB-C port model is compatible with several iPad models, including iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th gen), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen), iPad Air (4th and 5th gen), iPad mini 6th gen, and iPad 10th gen. Apple Hover is supported with the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th gen) and iPad Pro 11-inch (4th gen).
While this new Apple Pencil boasts pixel-perfect precision for writing, sketching, and drawing, it does not support pressure sensitivity, wireless charging, pairing, or double-tap functionality, unlike the 1st and 2nd-gen models. It offers low latency for responsive usage and tilt sensitivity for shading.
Although some reports had suggested Apple might unveil a new iPad, the company introduced a refreshed version of the iPad 10th generation with an eSIM slot in China, not an entirely new model. This development indicates that 2023 could be the first year in the history of the iPad since its launch in 2010 without a completely updated model.
