Singer and activist Charly Boy shares insights into his complex relationship with his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, revealing the impact of his unconformist nature.
Singer and activist Charly Boy has opened up about his difficult relationship with his late father, Chukwudifu Oputa, a former Supreme Court Justice. In a candid interview on the “With Chude” podcast, he discussed how their strained connection stemmed from his unconformist attitude.
Charly Boy explained that while their relationship was complicated, he learned valuable lessons from his father’s strict upbringing. He recounted how his struggles with authority began at home, fueled by a desire to question the rules imposed by his father.
“My rebellion started at home. I often wondered why my father dictated our every move—when to eat, pray, and more. I grew tired of it,” he shared. He admitted to being the most punished among his siblings for defying his father’s commands.
Charly Boy reflected on how this conflict affected their bond: “We didn’t understand each other. I felt like he saw me as a rebellious kid in need of punishment, while I couldn’t grasp his methods.” He noted that as they both matured, their perspectives began to shift, allowing them to appreciate each other’s personalities.
Ultimately, he concluded, “We didn’t agree on anything, which made it hard to connect. He didn’t know who I was, and I didn’t understand who he was.”
