The Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria on Wednesday, condemned the Transparency International 2019 report which ranked Nigeria poorly on the fight against corruption.
The Executive Director of the group, Comrade Agbonkpolor Splendour during a press conference, described the corruption report of Nigeria by the NGO as one politically orchestrated to downplay the good deeds of President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration.
Recall in the latest anti-corruption watchdog index, Nigeria dropped two places from 144th to 146th position out of the 180 countries that were surveyed worldwide.
In his statement, Agbonkpolor said; The misguided self-assumed corruption umpire has once again misfired in her recent pronouncement on corruption in Nigeria, This is considered unfounded and disingenuous to the realities that stir at the faces of every Nigerian on the issue of corruption which clears records to match every assumption of office by President Muhammadu Buhari. To erroneously assert that Nigeria scored 26 out of 100 percent, dropping from 27 points that she has maintained since 2017, ranking 146 out of 189 countries of the World in 2019. Transparency International corruption perception index is an insult on our collective intelligence.such foolishness should be ignored, not to give room to cheap popularity by Transparency International, A cheap NGO and nothing more.
“The clarity on the above statement credited to Nigeria by Transparency International is just to cast aspersion on President Muhammadu Buhari’s led government to further underscore the sinister intention to paint Nigerian Government in a negative light in the public domain, as such, it should be jettisoned by Nigerians because the government is currently winning the war against corruption with clear evidence to attest to the truth about the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Transparency International’s view and observation on Corruption in Nigeria is limited to assert her fictitious claims on Nigeria. It can be likened to as blinkered and baseless and such, the Government of Nigeria should ignore the fallacious claims on corruption by the NGO, not to get distracted, but remain focused and committed to duties and responsibilities as statutorily expected by Nigerians.”
Agbonkpolor applauding President Buhari on his achievement so far, revealed in figures the amount of funds recovered, he said; “To further set the record straight, President Buhari through the EFCC between January and August 2018 alone has secured 156 convictions, recovered 106,516,222; 1,635,925 in dollars, 629,193 in pounds and 25,575 in euro. These and more are recorded, which shows outright performance of the government in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.”
The Executive Director however urged President Buhari to carryout an immediate full fledged investigation on all foreign NGOs working within the Nigerian Economic space.
