The Ogun State Government has enjoined residents of the State to embrace the COVID-19 vaccine, affirming that it is a safe and most effective way to curtail the spread of the virus.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker made this call during an interview with journalists in Abeokuta, emphasising that it was important to get rid of the virus globally.
” It is important we get rid of the COVID-19 virus in the globe, because the longer you leave a virus, it will continue to mutate and if we don’t take our vaccine in on time, the virus will keep spreading”, Coker said.
The Health Commissioner who said that some people had taken the vaccine without exhibiting any side effects in the State, noted that it would prepare the body to fight against the virus if contracted.
Dr. Coker stressed that the roll out of the vaccine would be in four phases, saying health and other frontline workers would be the first to be vaccinated, while the second phase would comprise individuals of ages 18 to 49 years with underlying health issues, as well as 50 years and above, while the 3rd phase would capture Local Governments with high concentration of COVID-19 cases and the last phase would be for every other person.
In a related development, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola has urged people to visit the National Primary Health Care Development Agency portal nphcdaict.com.ng/publicreg to register and be scheduled for a vaccination date, saying government remained committed to ensuring that all residents were captured for the exercise.
Ogunsola who said the vaccine uptake would be in two doses at an interval of three months, admonished everyone to take advantage of the vaccine and gain full immunity against the virus, advising residents to continue to observe the non-pharmaceutical safety measures by wearing face masks, regular washing of hands, use of sanitizer and maintain social distancing.
