The Federal Government directs all universities to be closed from 22nd February to 14th March, 2023. over worries aired on the security of staff, students, and properties of the institutions.
A letter by the National Universities Commission (NUC) directed all heads of institutions to shut down, that no academic activities will take place between the duration of the break. This also include all inter-university centres.
The letter, titled “Ministerial Directive on the Closure of all Universities and Inter University Centres During the Upcoming 2023 General Elections”, was signed by the Deputy Executive Secretary in charge of administration, Chris Maiyaki.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, gave the directive after consultation with relevant security agencies.
“Vice-Chancellors of all Universities and Directors/ Chief Executive of Inter University Centres are aware, the 2023 Presidential election is scheduled to hold on 25th February and National Assembly, 11th March 2023 for Gubernatorial and State Assembly, respectively.
“In view of this, the Honourable Minister of Education, Mal. Adamu Adamu has directed that all Universities and Inter University Centres be shut down and academic activities be suspended between 22nd February and 14th March, 2023.
