Adamu made this praise worthy statements while commemorating the 2022 World Teachers Day (WTD) and President’s Teachers Schools Excellence Award on Monday in Abuja.
The minister maintains that the stance of government to commemorate the commencement of activities marking the 2022 edition of World Teachers Day (WTD) and activation of Presidents Teachers Schools Excellence Award (PT&SEA).
Adamu reiterates that the WTD started in 1994 to commemorate the 5th October 1966 adoption of the UNESCO/ILO recommendation on the need to continually refresh the consciousness of National Governments towards the inestimable value of teachers, their indispensable role in nation building and the importance of repositioning the profession for the attainment and sustainability of quality education.
The Minister of Education stated that the national implementation of the New National Teaching Policy has commenced. While maintaining that it is a holistic package that will ultimately address the career path, remuneration, professional teaching standards, qualification, deployment and management of teachers.
The Minister while unveiling the theme for the year 2022 WTD as “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers”, Adamu strongly stresses the importance of empowering teachers for the effective transformation of education to ensure quality teaching and learning as well as galvanise technological advancements to meet the ever changing needs for national growth and development.
The Minister stipulates that the Federal Ministry of Education started this year’s preparation with a call for nomination instruments, attached therein, to State Ministries of Education and Federal Unity Colleges nationwide for the objective selection of meritorious nominees. The champions so selected would then compete for National Best School, Best Teacher and Best School Administrator in the Public, Private and Federal Unity Colleges categories.
The minister of Education also revealed that the Federal Unity College category would harness the opportunity to further implore the State Ministries of commence from the word level. Each Local Government is expected to forward their beat to the respective State Ministry of Education for screening Coherently, the State champions would emerge for word transmission to the Ministry.
Minister Adamu reiterates that the implication is that any form of haphazard nominations by the State is a sabotage to the motivation of teachers for excellent service delivery while adherence to the guidance will ensure inclusive coverage as no school, teacher or education administrator is left behind.
Adamu stated accordingly, that all narratives, innovations, cords and commendations to illustrate ingenuity and effectiveness of potential awardees are expected to be backed up with verifiable documentations and pictorials. The instrument would be scored to determine the national winners. Therefore, the ongoing media conference to the precursor to create further awareness of the Symposium and the D-Day event.
The Minister in his statement reveals that the Symposium will take place at the Ministry’s conference hall second (2) floor podium shortly after the Medio conference from 11:00am-2:00pm for a comprehensive exposition of the WID theme “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers” in the Nigerian education sector. The Symposium will enable educationists and other stakeholders scrutinize issues and developments connected with the theme and a comminuque expected to impact on Policy review would be produced.
The minister of Education also maintains that prof. Paulinus Chijioke Okwele the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCEO will be the Chief discussant. The other discussants will include Comrade Audu Titus Amba, the National President, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) who will speak on “Teachers: The Indispensible Agents for the Transformation of Education in Nigeria” while Prof. Segun Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) will focus on “The Role of Teachers as “Facilitators” and “Provocateurs” in Education Transformation”.
While Prof. Musa Garba Maitafsir,Director General/Chief Executive of the National Teachers Institute (NTI) will compliment the discussion with a copious guidance on “Teachers: Expectations to complement the revitalization and repositioning of the teaching profession”.
The Minister also stated that the grand finale will be on Wednesday, 5th October, 2022 and the Ministry will host the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR who will deliver the keynote address. However, members of NASS, Directors of Federal Ministry of Education (FME), Chief Executives of Education Parastatals, FME staff, representatives of NUT nationwide and other Education stakeholders will also be in attendance.
While the NUT representatives from the thirty-six States of the Federation including FCT will participate in a competitive March-past to add colour to the event and covetious Prizes sponsored by the Ministry and others donated by education parastatals namely TRCN, NECO, JAMB, UBEC NIT, NUC, TetFund etc for the annual activation of the Presidents award will also be given to deserving winners.
In conclusion, the minister of Education, reiterates that as Nigeria gradually moves towards becoming one of the Teacher Friendly nations in the world, the press is implored to disseminate the information and join hands to reposition and revitalize the status of teachers for the sustainability of quality education in Nigeria.
