Reactions have trailed the defection of Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi to the All Progressive Congress, ahead of 2023 general election.
The incumbent governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi had earlier confirmed that he has officially defected from his now former party, People’s Democratic Party PDP to APC the ruling party.
However here are reactions gathered from different personalities;
‘We wish you well’ -PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has reacted to the defection of Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
It said; “Our party thanks Governor Umahi for services rendered to the people of Ebonyi State, as the State Chairman of Ebonyi PDP (2003 to 2007); Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State (2007 to 2015) and two-term Governor of Ebonyi (2015 till date), all elected on the platform of the PDP.
“As we wish Governor Umahi all the best in his adventure, we call on the members of our party to remain calm and committed to the ideals of our party as no individual is bigger than the PDP,” Ologbondiyan said.
It was only a homecoming- Presidency
The presidency described the move as a welcome development, describing Umahi as the highest performing Governor in the South East.
Bashir Ahmad, a special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, in a tweet in reaction to the news, said it was only a homecoming for Umahi.
He tweeted, “When you apply its actual term, the ‘all politics is local’, His Excellency will be welcomed to our great party, the APC, a great person, one of the performing governors in the country, arguably the best in his region. It’s just a homecoming!”
Umahi defected to APC for presidential ticket, we’ll be disappointed – Deji Adeyanju
Popular human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has reacted to the defection of Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Adeyanju disclosed that Umahi defected to APC to pursue his presidential ambition but President Muhammadu Buhari will hand over to a Northerner.
The convener of Concerned Nigerians described Umahi’s move as a joke.
He, however, noted that Umahi would only get a Senatorial ticket.
According to Adeyanju: “Ebonyi Gov going to APC to contest for President is not only a joke but madness taken too far.
“They won’t give him more than a Senatorial ticket and also hide his corruption file. Buhari will give APC ticket for 2023 to a Northerner.”
Reno-Omokri:
The utterances/actions of Governor Umahi represent his personal opinion, not that of the Southeast, or even Ebonyi people.If he says
@OfficialPDPNig
is unjust for not zoning its Presidential ticket to SE, then how is moving to APC, that has nothing but disdain for SE, the answer?
This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades- Fayose
Gov Umahi defected to APC long ago before this unjustifiable move, which clearly has nothing to do with the interest of the Igbo nation.
This is a reflection of the type of leadership our country parades.
@chosensomto: It’s good that Umahi joined his fellow election riggers in APC.
He admitted that he gave Buhari 25% of Ebonyi votes in 2019; how can you negotiate People’s votes if not through rigging?
Umahi is part of the reason Nigerians are suffering Buhari’s regime harsh economy today.
@DrJoeAbah:
Many have sought my views about the defection of my state Governor, Engr. Dave Umahi from the PDP to the APC. I speak with the Governor very very often but we have never discussed politics. My only interest is the advancement of Ebonyi State. That will not change. Folded hands.
@EtcOmereze:
Just imagine how he sold himself cheap.. make himself an enemy to the SE and creating division amongst the SE. Mark my words 2023 is “divide them and conquer” the Northerners will end up using him as VP to Sanusi or Jagaban or anybody. PDP will pick either OBI or Ekweremadu as VP.
@UgochukwuIheji1:
Gov Umahi just retired himself early enough before the youths retires him. He can’t be President of Nigeria or does he want to seek relevance in APC than Okorocha & Orji Kalu? All dez politicians wey no dey listen to the citizens biko “Pak n Go”. E shock you?
