Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on Monday revealed to some envoys conditions for the Federal Government to lift the ban it made on Twitter.
Onyeama who made it known during a meeting, disclosed that Twitter’s operations in Nigeria will be restored only if the platform can be used “responsibly.”
He further noted that the federal government never said Twitter is threatening the country adding that the suspension of the platform was a measure taken to stop it from being used to destabilize the country.
Onyeama, however, noted that there is no definite timeline for lifting the ban.
“We are not saying that Twitter is threatening the country or any such thing.
‘why we have taken this measure is to stop them to be used as platforms for destabilization and facilitation of criminality or encouragement of criminalities,” he said.
Recall that Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed earlier announced that Twitter has been banned from carrying out its operations in Nigeria.
He said the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence was the reason for the suspension.
