The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has cautioned that Nigeria is on the verge of significant turmoil and emphasized the necessity to avoid national protests. Chekwas Okorie, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) for APGA, issued this warning during an address in Abuja on Wednesday.
Okorie highlighted the severe hardships currently faced by Nigerians and warned that any protest could escalate into widespread chaos and violence. He expressed confidence that the Igbo community would abstain from participating in any such protests.
“Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder… So my advice would be that we should not go the way of a protest. If it happens, it will become an ill wind that will blow nobody any good, including the sponsors and those in government,” Okorie stated. He emphasized that a hungry and angry populace could become irrational and violent, creating a dangerous chain of events.
Okorie urged patience, suggesting that more time be given to the current government to effect change. He also advised people in the Southeast to refrain from joining the protests, expressing confidence that the Igbo would heed this advice.

He added, “We understand that ultimately, some individuals may be used as scapegoats. I believe that our counterparts in Yorubaland should also take similar actions. The same goes for those in the North. By doing so, we can help pacify our people. However, this is not something where you can issue a marching order or threaten them. If you do, they will resist and you will not be able to overcome them.”, “We understand that ultimately, some individuals may be used as scapegoats.
