This was after an attack in a nearby town “which shares a fence” with the school management causing panic amongst the school management, staff, students and parents.
Students who were scheduled to wrap up their third term exam on Tuesday have now been sent home.
“I just picked them up at Giri Junction, the owner of the school called to inform us,” one of the parents who was contacted said.
The president of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Suleiman Idajili, said the directive followed an attack in a nearby town on Sunday morning. The terrorists attacked the town that shared a fence with the school and kidnapped a man.
He said the school administration ordered parents to evacuate their neighborhoods on Monday, but those near the school chose to pick them up on Sunday.
The decision, he said, was approved by officials from the Federal Ministry of Education who, he revealed, visited the school on Sunday.
Idajili said: “Officially, we said that everyone should come tomorrow (Monday). But those who live around decided to pick up their children today, and many of them came today.”
“It was due to the prompt response of the army, police and other security personnel on the school grounds that they (terrorists) did not enter the school grounds,” So that’s why we had to take that action because we don’t know their next plan.” he added.
Mr. Idajili has assured the parents that security officers are on the ground to guide them against any intrusion by attackers.
He said: “We have very tight security to protect those whose parents did not come to pick them up tonight. The army is involved. The police are involved; the secret police and local vigilantes are all involved.
