Kwankwaso’s Repeat Visit to Tinubu Amidst Alleged Atiku and Peter Obi Alliance Talks
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), paid another visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday, August 24. This marks their second recent meeting, with reports suggesting discussions on matters of national significance.
Saifullahi Hassan, a media aide to Kwankwaso, confirmed this meeting via his Facebook page and shared images of the two leaders at the presidential villa in Abuja, taken during their encounter.
Interestingly, Kwankwaso’s meeting with President Tinubu coincides with emerging reports about a potential alliance involving Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The trio is said to be exploring the idea of merging their strengths to establish a robust political entity capable of presenting a strong challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
These discussions among the three prominent political figures have been ongoing for a period. They reportedly began with talks between Atiku, the PDP’s presidential candidate, and Kwankwaso.
Following the positive outcome of the initial discussions, a subsequent meeting took shape involving Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party and the driving force behind the “OBIdient Movement,” along with other influential figures within the PDP, who were brought into the fold after the initial conversations between Atiku and Kwankwaso.
The current deliberations are still in the preliminary stages, anchored on two key principles.
Reports indicate that the three leaders have decided to adopt a wait-and-see approach based on the outcomes of election petition cases in court. These legal verdicts will play a pivotal role in shaping the next steps, particularly if the court rulings take an unfavorable direction.
