During an appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, Simi addressed the controversy surrounding the title of her collaboration with Tiwa Savage, “Men Are Crazy.”
Simi revealed that she initially had no plans to explain the reasoning behind the title, despite the negative reactions it received from some male observers online. She believed that the message would become clear once the song was released. “I honestly wasn’t going to go on an explaining spree at the time. I was like when the song comes out they will see what I’m trying to say,” Simi explained.
Acknowledging that the online reaction to the title contributed to the song’s rollout and increased anticipation, Simi mentioned that Tiwa Savage added a softer touch to the message with her lyrics “Men are crazy but I still want one in my bed.” Initially, Simi intended to leave it at “men are crazy.”
The collaboration between Simi and Tiwa Savage marks a significant moment for female collaborations in Afrobeats, as it’s their first time working together. “Men Are Crazy” follows the release of “All I Want” in February 2024 and serves as a precursor to Simi’s upcoming album expected to drop later this year.
In addition to discussing the collaboration, Simi also addressed her husband Adekunle Gold’s recent defense of her on social media during a disagreement with producer Samklef.
