Today, President Bola Tinubu will forward a new set of ministerial candidates to the Senate for evaluation.
An inside source from the Senate reveals that the names could arrive late Tuesday or early Wednesday. The insider further mentioned that the new nominees would be announced during today’s plenary session.
It is anticipated that the screening of the 28 nominees will be finished today, paving the way for the next batch’s screening.
The Senate completed screenings for 14 out of 28 nominees previously presented by the President on Monday. An additional nine were screened on Tuesday. The list included Senator David Umahi, Olawale Edun, Nasir el-Rufai, and others.
Each nominee brought unique perspectives during their screening. Finance expert Edun discussed exchange rate, while former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Adelabu, stressed the importance of oversight on the CBN activities. El Rufai shared the President’s vision for a Nigeria free from power outages within seven years.
Despite praise for El-Rufai’s track record, Senator Sunday Karimi raised concerns over El-Rufai’s handling of insecurity in Southern Kaduna. The Senate postponed the remaining ministerial screenings until Wednesday.
