The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, has disclosed its intentions to continuously improve primary healthcare at all grassroots level, through innovations and strategic optimization.
This was disclosed during the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance certificate presentation to the Executive Director of the agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib on Thursday at the agency.
The president of the group, presenting the certificate revealed that the distinguished certificate of performance is to acknowledge and commend Dr. Faisal Shuaib for his professionalism, stellar leadership qualities and commitment to better the primary healthcare system in the nation, as Nigeria has been firsthand declared free from the polio endemic.
Ogakwu who described the Executive Director as a resilient and committed leader, stated that performance is sure when a square peg is placed in a square hole.
He said: “We have followed your track records and have come to a conclusion that you are a deserving leader who effortlessly has given his best to the improvement of the primary healthcare sector in Nigeria, through consistent hardwork, dedication and commitment. This certificate of performance is for you and your reliable team members for most especially combating polio and ensuring that our nation was declared free from the ravaging endemic.
“We are here today as Advocate of Universal Health Coverage, which is targeted to cater for children under the age of five, to ensure that children within that age, receives complete healthcare services without necessarily going through the rigors of low finance. Our commendation today is in a bid to encourage you not to rest on your oars in placing Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare sector on the map. CSGGG recommends you for higher responsibility as you have delivered on the mandate of the agency given to you by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration.”
Speaking on behalf of the ED, Dr Idris Garba, Director Planning, Research and Statistics, thanked the group for the acknowledgement, but emphasized that even when all hope seems lost, families tired of immunising their children, donors tired of donating, Dr. Faisal and the team did not relent but rather gave in their best to eradicate the disease. He mentioned that the battle against the polio endemic has been on since 1998.
Dr Idris also revealed that about two hundred and twenty health workers were trained to assist in the combat against the current wave of Covid-19 pandemic, strategies and innovations have been introduce for the optimization of the PHC in the highest level amid the pandemic.
NPHCDA however urged Civil Society Groups for Good Governance, to continue in the light of its advocacy for transparency and accountability, as the agency plans to collaborate with others as regards to the primary health care sector in the nation.
