Ivory Coast’s national football team coach, Jean Louis Gasset, has acknowledged the strengths of the Super Eagles of Nigeria as both teams prepare for their upcoming clash in the AFCON 2023 tournament. The Super Eagles previously played to a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in their opening Group A fixture in Ivory Coast.
The Ivorian team, also known as the Elephants, secured a victory against Guinea-Bissau in their opening group fixture, placing them at the top of Group A with three points. Jean-Philippe Krasso and Seko Fofana contributed goals to the Ivorian win.
As Ivory Coast prepares to face Nigeria, Coach Gasset emphasized his awareness of the strengths of the Nigerian team, particularly highlighting their impressive offensive capabilities and the presence of the best African player in their squad.
“Regarding our second match, we know the strengths of Nigeria, they have an impressive offensive armada, they have the best African player in their squad, but against them, we will have to raise our cursor, and I know my players will do it because I know you had to win that first game to be released,” stated the 70-year-old French coach.
Both teams, boasting a combined total of five African Cup of Nations trophies, are poised for a highly anticipated clash at the Stade Olympique Ouattara on Thursday, with Ivory Coast enjoying the advantage of playing on home soil.
