Saheed Olagunju, a promising player from Chelsea’s Golden Eaglets, has shared his admiration for top defenders, both past and present. The young talent, known for his technical prowess in playing out from the back, has expressed his admiration for Real Madrid legends Sergio Ramos and Antonio Rudiger. Additionally, Olagunju has cited two Chelsea icons, current star Thiago Silva, and club legend John Terry, as his role models.
Primarily a left-sided central defender, Olagunju joined Chelsea at the U12 level from Charlton Athletic. His journey through the youth team ranks culminated in signing a scholarship deal with the club in the summer of 2023. Although he has yet to make his debut in the U18 Premier League this season, he showcased his skills by scoring his first competitive goal for Chelsea U18s in a recent 4-2 victory over Barnsley in the Premier League Cup. In the dying moments of the match, Olagunju headed home from a corner, securing Chelsea’s fourth goal.
When asked about his favorite defenders, Olagunju praised Sergio Ramos and Antonio Rudiger for their exceptional abilities. Regarding Chelsea players, he highlighted Thiago Silva and John Terry as the modern-day defender prototypes he looks up to.
Olagunju is gearing up for his potential second appearance in the U18 Premier League Cup as Chelsea faces Tottenham Hotspur in an upcoming clash on Saturday.
