In the early hours of this morning, a fire broke out at the E54 Bridge of Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal One, prompting immediate action from electrical engineers who cut off power to the airport’s E Wing upon detecting billowing smoke.
According to a statement by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN), the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) team responded swiftly, arriving at the scene by 05:30 hrs. While initial suspicions suggest sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The fire, which was brought under control by 06:41 hrs, led to the diversion of all flight operations in Terminal 1 of MMA to the D Wing. Efforts are ongoing to ventilate the smoke from the building, and further details are expected to follow shortly.
