The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a stern warning against a deceptive advertisement promoting a purported ‘Federal Study Loan’ scheme. Disassociating itself from the fraudulent website www.fedstudyloan-gov.ng, NELFUND emphasized that it has no affiliation with the platform. Nasir Ayitogo, NELFUND’s Media and Public Relations Lead, condemned attempts to mislead students seeking financial aid and clarified that the official channel for student loan applications will be through www.nelf.gov.ng. Ayitogo urged individuals encountering the fake website to promptly report it to the authorities to prevent further deception. Stressing NELFUND’s commitment to student welfare and accurate information dissemination, the statement urged caution and verification of the legitimacy of any purported representation. The warning comes amidst the recent enactment of the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, which aims to provide interest-free loans to indigent students for tertiary education pursuits.
