The Nigerian national football team, Super Eagles, has departed Abu Dhabi and is en route to Lagos ahead of their farewell dinner with the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The team has been in camp in Abu Dhabi since January 2, preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is scheduled to commence on January 13.
While in Abu Dhabi, the Super Eagles played two games, winning 12-0 against a local club in Abu Dhabi but suffering a 2-0 loss to Guinea on Monday. The team concluded its program in Abu Dhabi on Monday, and on Tuesday morning, a video was shared showing the team leaving Dubai for Lagos. The team is expected to arrive in Lagos on Tuesday evening.
Upon reaching Lagos, the Super Eagles will have a farewell dinner with Governor Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday before departing for Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday. The AFCON tournament is set to begin on Saturday, January 13, with the Super Eagles playing their first game against Equatorial Guinea on January 14. Subsequent group stage matches include clashes with hosts Cote d’Ivoire on January 18 and Guinea-Bissau on January 22.
